Owning Truth

Truth is getting harder to own these days. It is slippery. It hides among the lies. Computer-generated images and AI produced stories make it difficult to know what is real and what is fake. Since truth turned into “designer truth” we have personal versions of the truth. Truth is becoming harder to pick out as it is to pick out the right version of the Bible. Which one is closer to the truth? “Any one will do.” Will it? Accuracy is being replaced with “close enough.” Not even mathematics is safe from the truth-distorters. If truth were sold in jewelry stores, you would have to be an expert to know if the truth-diamond you are purchasing is the real thing or some manufactured replica. If you bought truth in a pharmacy, you would have to be a chemist to know if the truth-prescription you were getting was the real deal or a placebo. It is hard to own truth because it is hard to know if it is truth. This isn’t new. It is that there are lot more ways to counterfeit truth. The counterfeiters are really good.

So, the wise man says, “Buy the truth and sell it not.” If you ever find truth, buy it. Hold on to it. Test it first but then hold on to it. Own it. Put it in your portfolio. Lock it up in your safe deposit box. Don’t let the father of lies steal it. Once you own it you must protect it.  The greatest truth, the most valuable truth to find, to buy, and to protect is Jesus is Lord. All other truths flow from this one truth. He is truth. He is the source. It is like the waters of Cazale, Haiti. The artesian spring feeds this little valley tucked away in the denatured mountains of Haiti, south of Port au Prince and causes life to flourish. Buy the source of truth and the valley of your life will be forever green. Once you own it, then live it out. Truth was meant to be experienced. YOU DON’T OWN IT UNTIL YOU EXPERIENCE IT.
